Speech Pathology

Job Description

Evaluates and treats patients with various speech, language, voice and swallowing disorders under the prescription of a physician.

Participates in performance improvement activities designed to identify and resolve problems affecting patient care outcome and to improve quality of care.

Plans for and completes patient discharge including providing written home programs, patient/family teaching, referral for community services and ordering equipment.

Completes all required documentation following department policy, including patient progress notes, team conference reports, and discharge summaries as appropriate, to record patient care and progress of each patient assigned as well as daily statistics, billing, and scheduling.

Communicates verbally and in writing with peers, patients, families, physicians, case managers, and all other personnel.

Applies insurance guidelines regarding authorization and number of visits.

Pursues professional educational growth through participation in continuing education courses, department inservices, and reading professional literature.

Presents inservices to staff on knowledge gained from courses attended and other resources.

Maintains knowledge of educational programs being presented to the community.

Participates in Speech Pathology student orientation.

General Qualifications

Master's Degree in Speech/Language Pathology.

Must maintain current licensure in the State of Wisconsin to practice Speech/Language Pathology.

Good human relations, organization, problem solving, and decision-making skills.

Must obtain CPR certification within three months of hire.
